There is a daemon listening on port 8080 (or something like that).?You may have
to turn off some security to see the daemon. Check your config file
Point a browser at the port.
All the commands you see via the browser can be triggered by using the "hacker
tool" wget with the URL of the command. I'm assuming that wget is installed or
available for your distro.
.?

I am stopping it when the building is in normal use as I only want to take
photos of thieves breaking in.? Not me and my family walking around the house.?
I have installed motion in response to a burglary.
I am stopping it via a init.d script, manually for now but I when it is sorted
it will be via cron.? The relevant command is ?start-stop-daemon --stop
--oknodo --exec $DAEMON --retry 30
What is this built in function you mention?? I assumed starting and stopping
the daemon was the correct way to do this?? Do you mean the motion detection??
Because that is what it is doing now, but I don't want to fill my dropbox
account with pointless images of me dusting the tv :-)

How are you stopping it? The next question is why?
Why not just not capture things via the built in function which does that? Just
as easy to trigger from cron.?

I have setup the motion video detection system on Ubuntu 14.04 and want to
start and stop it via cron so that it's not capturing pictures when the room is
normally in use. It all works fine until I stop the daemon at which point a
kworker thread and a ksoftirqd thread start hammering the cpu, with the kworker
at about 73% and the ksoftirqd at about 27% cpu usage. These remain at this
level until I start the daemon again. This is the syslog output when the daemon
stops.Feb 4 18:29:50 cavern motion: [1] Calling vid_close() from motion_cleanup
Feb 4 18:29:50 cavern motion: [1] Closing video device /dev/video0 Feb 4
18:29:51 cavern motion: [0] Motion terminating Feb 4 18:29:51 cavern motion:
[0] Removed process id file (pid file).I am not sure what other information I
should provide to help solve this problem?? I have tried 2 different logitec
web cams. How do I stop the motion daemon with out having it melt the cpu?
