Hello,

It would be nice if motion supports MP4 / WebM formats out of
the box as that would allow to embed resulting video into
HTML5 <video> tag. The message posted in Sep 2015

https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg00084.html

says that one should use "extpipe" option and default config
has an example for MPlayer movie encoder
(https://packages.debian.org/wheezy/mencoder).

1. Is it possible to use ffmpeg utility instead of mencoder
   for that purpose?
2. Can anyone post read-to-use "extpipe" option value to
   encode to MP4?

Thanks in advance.

This is how I encode MP4 files. It can be played directly in Firefox:

extpipe x264 - --input-res 640x480 --fps %fps --bitrate 500 --preset
ultrafast --quiet -o %f.mp4

This example uses "x264" encoder. But you can achieve the same using ffmpeg
too

Hi all,
I am pretty new to motion. I have just used it on some pre-packaged examples on
a raspberryPi.
However, I was wondering if it would be possible to use it to trim down a long
video file so as to remove the motionless periods.

Say I have a long video file of an almost always static scene, with some
occasional movement. Can I use this video file as a ?virtual camera? and feed
it into motion?

If not, do you have any other tools to suggest?

thanks

Davide

Yes, you can use v4l loopback to feed the file to motion. Also, you can
transcode the file into MJPEG and stream it using over HTTP

The better question might be why is motion recording non-motion? There are a
number of options in the config file that might fix this by upping the
threshold of events.?
