Thanks. I got so focused on improving the performance of my little
embedded box I forgot about the camera altogether. Turns out that the
framerate and video quality are the biggest CPU hogs, in particular
upping the video quality of my Hikvision camera pegs the CPU.
Backing off from the video quality and matching frame rates for both
motion and the camera results in a pretty decent CPU utilization of 80%.

I have motion set up and running. I am running a wired ipcam set to
send 2 fps.
Motion is set up to record 2fps.
However, when motion is detected, motion only saves an image every 2-3
seconds. Thinking it might be slow storage, I am now saving the images
to ramdisk, but still, motion only stores 1 frame every 2-3 seconds.
CPU usage is around 30-60% so the process is not cpu bound.
How do I get motion to record the full 2fps when motion is detected?
What am I missing?
Thanks.

Hello,
have you setup save only the best or the center frame saving?
regards
Thomas

What version are you using?
Can you please post your config, log and an example?

Hello List,
I did an update from trunkREV561 to latest git (03.10) from Mr. Dave but
now if fails with:
http_bindsock: error binding on 127.0.0.1 port 8082
motion_init: Problem enabling motion-stream server in port 8082: Bad file
descriptor
motion_loop: Thread exiting
motion_cleanup: Calling
vid_close() from motion_cleanup vid_close: Closing video
device /dev/video1 main: Threads finished
main: Motion terminating
motion_remove_pid: Closing logfile (/tmp/motion.log).
IPv6 is disabled (# CONFIG_IPV6 is not set)

I had this problem a week ago. See:
https://github.com/Motion-Project/motion/issues/217
Essentially at the moment the code assumes IPv6 support is there in the
kernel. If it isn't you get the bind error. My quick fix was to patch
http_bind_sock() and change the two instances of AF_INET6 to AF_INET.
Regards
David

This should be fixed now.
Thanks,
Joseph
