If you've compiled Motion from source, you can do it again and specify
the --with-ffmpeg configuration option and specify the directory to the
pkg-config files for ffmpeg.? Where exactly those files are located on
your system I could not say.? Look for a file called libavformat.pc and
specify the directory one (or two?) levels above that for the configure
parameter.

What also may help you is to know that the 56.1.0 version is from the
libav package set of tools versus the ffplay version is from the
official ffmpeg team.? And that you may be able to see the libavformat
version picked by Motion by simply looking at the configure script
output.? Recent versions from the master branch will output the
libavformat version as part of the configure script.? (If it isn't
reported, you'll need to go through the full make/install / run to see
the version)

Hello,

I'm trying to optimize my configuration for best possible recording and
best motion detection.
I got 6 Axis cameras. 3 are placed outside, while 3 are placed inside
the house.
I got two AXIS M1125 in the driveway, and one M2025-LE outside the front
door of the house.
Inside I got one M3005, one M3045-V and one M3045-WV, all are running to
a POE switch except M3045-WV that's the only one that's wifi.

I'm trying to capture the best video, while using a lower resolution for
motion detection. I have set ffmpeg_passthrough, but it looks like it
captures the video using netcam_url instead of netcam_highres.

Here is my configuration:

motion.conf (common for all cameras).

daemon off

process_id_file /var/run/motion/motion.pid

netcam_keepalive on
target_dir /mnt/data/motion

movie_filename %Y%m%d%H%M%S-netcam%t-%v
picture_filename %Y%m%d%H%M%S-netcam%t-%v

camera /etc/motion/camera1.conf
camera /etc/motion/camera2.conf
camera /etc/motion/camera3.conf
camera /etc/motion/camera4.conf
camera /etc/motion/camera5.conf
camera /etc/motion/camera6.conf

logfile /var/log/motion.log

output_pictures off

ffmpeg_output_movies on
ffmpeg_video_codec mp4
ffmpeg_duplicate_frames off
ffmpeg_passthrough on

Here is camera1.conf, I use similar configuration for the other cameras:

# AXIS M1125 Network Camera
camera_id 1
camera_name OutsideDriveWay
#netcam_url http://netcam1/mjpg/video.mjpg?resolution=640x480
netcam_url http://netcam1/mjpg/video.mjpg
netcam_highres rtsp://netcam1/axis-media/media.amp
target_dir /mnt/data/motion/camera1

width 1920
height 1080
framerate 25

threshold 1000
threshold_tune off
noise_level 50
noise_tune off

minimum_motion_frames 3
pre_capture 0
post_capture 200

text_changes off

If I try to use: netcam_url
http://netcam1/mjpg/video.mjpg?resolution=640x480 instead just
netcam_url http://netcam1/mjpg/video.mjpg
It still captures video using netcam_url with the resolution set in the
url instead of netcam_highres.
I've tried to remove ffmpeg_video_codec also. What am I missing?

Jonas

Can you check this link: https://github.com/Motion-Project/motion/issues/737
Is it the same issue you have?
