I have a bird that calls at night. it's a single call and for a long time it stumped me, like weeks. But then I heard it give a trill, and I live in marshy habitat, so I decided it was the swamp sparrow that I hear in the same location during the day.
It's an idea. It was a great day. We had lots of good interaction with the public and handed out almost a full box of magazines. One question stumped us both. We were asked about a bird that calls only at night, gives one call and then is silent. The location is a woody area far from a lake or wetlands, somewhere in mid-Minnesota. Does anyone know of such a thing. We guessed frogs, insects but the fair goer insisted that it was a bird call. -- Oh no, not another learning experience! Debra J.
