There is a Varied Thrush coming to feeders on Pleasant Lake, near Hackensack. Also, a Red-headed Woodpecker continues to winter at feeders near Leader. Pine Grosbeaks, Red Crossbills, and Bohemian Waxwings have been very difficult to find all winter.

When I taught ornithology it was easy to make quizzes of birds of the week, month, course, country. Plus he could then add the bird calls and even the ranges. You can also use personal media! it is just a great product. (I have no personal financial ties to the Thayer company.) dan -- Dan or Erika Tallman Northfield, Minnesota http://danerika.googlepages.com/home http://picasaweb.google.com/danerika daner...@gmail.com ".... the best shod travel with wet feet" "Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes ...."--Thoreau ---- Join or Leave mou-net:http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives:http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Feb 2009 13:31:28 -0600 From: jbaum...@usfamily.net Subject: Re: Varied Thrush And I didn't see it from 12:45 - 1:15. Our best finds were 1 Tufted Titmouse and 8 White-winged Crossbills along Hay Creek Trail, on or near a feeder station. Titmice were previously reported here by Linda Whyte for the Red Wing CBC. At the Hay Creek feeder station, we both heard a titmouse, and Dave had a quick look at one on a feeder. The White-winged Crossbills were perched on top of a spruce tree. When they flew, the sun clearly showed off their bright white wing bars on black wings, and their lovely pinkish-red color.
