Unusual this morning was a singing male Blue-winged Warbler in Pine River.  The
song was consistently a typical two-syllable Blue-winged song, and the bird
showed no visible signs of hybridization.  The upper wing bar was washed pale
yellow, although this is noted in the Peterson Warbler guide as not unusual for
Blue-winged.  The bird was located in town, at the intersection of Barclay (MN
84) and Third st.  Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrows have been vocalizing
consistently at both the Boy River along CR 8 and Swamp Lake along MN 371.
Yellow Rails have been clicking away at Swamp Lake as well.  At least six
Connecticut Warblers were singing from the tamarack bog along CR 135 on the
10th, along with several Yellow-bellied Flycatchers, a Lincoln's Sparrow, and
Gray Jays.  Good birding,

Ben Wieland
