Today while hiking upon the Cascade River, I observed a female
Black-backed Woodpecker working on dead spruce trees along the river.
This was a few minutes south of the Cook County Rd 45 bridge, on the
west side of the river. (Snowshoes not required if you stay on the trail
well-packed by previous hikers. However, there are places of open water,
so use caution.)
