Hello:

Last Sunday while birding along the railroad tracks in the Morgan Park
neighborhood I heard 2 Red-bellied Woodpeckers constantly calling to each
other, so I decided to investigate and possibly take some photos of them. When
I located the adults I notice a immature bird that looked like it recently
fledged that was being fed by the adults. This would be a probable first
county nesting record of this species for St. Louis Co.

A few years ago a birder found a hole in a tree along Hwy 23 in the
neighborhood of Fond Du Lac just west of Morgan Park by 10 miles where adult
Red-bellied Woodpeckers were seen entering but as far as I know there were no
other reports of evidence of successful nesting ( no reports of eggs or young
in the nest hole ).

I did take a photo of the young Red-bellied Woodpecker that was basically all
brown in color except the black barring on the back.

Also this past spring I reported Red-bellied Woodpeckers in the approximately
same location, so its most likely these are the same birds.
