Anna Petterson at MRVAC on Thursday: The Conflict of Windmills with Bird Migration
The May meeting of MRVAC will be at the newly remodelled Minnesota River Valley Wildlife Refuge Visitors Center 3801 American Blvd, Bloomington, this Thursday (5/27) at 7pm and will feature Anna Petterson a PhD canditate at the University of Minnesota Duluth talking on "the Conflict of Windmills with Bird Migration" Meetings are free and open to the public. "Massive raptor migration as well as other bird migration along the Lake Superior coast of Minnesota holds a potential for significant conflict with wind energy and other industrial development in that corridor. A study along the North Shore seeks to identify migratory flight pathways and stopover habitat characteristics in order to develop a comprehensive conservation plan to avoid development that would threaten the survivorship of migrating birds and the viability of this area as a major migratory corridor." When: Please join us at 7:00 pm to socialize over coffee and cookies from 7:00 to 7:30 pm. A brief business meeting and the featured speaker begin at 7:30 pm. The meeting will conclude before 9:00 pm. Directions: Take the 34th Avenue exit (same exit as the Humphry Terminal) form I-494 and head south to American Blvd (80th Street) and turn east (left). Follow the road around to the Visitor's Center on the right.
