*Saving the Galapagos Hawk On Thursday March 22, 2012 7:30 pm *
Presented by Dr. Julie Ponder, Exec. Director of The Raptor Center The Galapagos Islands are one of the most famous birding destinations. Unfortunately, for many years, invasive species have plagued these famous islands, putting the native bird and animal populations at risk. Partnering with collaborators from around the world, the Galapagos National Park is working to prevent extinctions and restore ecosystems altered over time. The current focus is to permanently remove invasive rodents, with a critical component of preventing non-target species mortality. Because the Galapagos Hawks were identified as at risk, The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota was asked to lead the effort to protect them during a recent rodent eradication project in Galapagos. Come learn about the challenges faced in this amazing place and the extraordinary efforts to save it This meeting of the Minnesota River Valley Audubon Chapter (MRVAC) is free and open to the public.
