Peregrines used to nest on the High Bridge plant smoke stack until it was
brought down in 2008. (after witnessing the demolition of this iconic landmark,
my young daughter sighed: "St. Paul used to be a unicorn. Now it's just a
horse").

The nesting peregrines were encouraged to move house up river where a nest box
was prepared for them atop the ADM Stackhouse near Randolph and Shepard.
Instead peregrines took up under the High Bridge deck, above the pier that
Linda describes.

Last Friday one of the chicks jumped and had to be rescued from the dog park
below the nest. Monday, I was just leaving the dog park when I saw a male
falcon attempting to gain altitude with a rock pigeon it had just caught. It
managed to crash land on top of the pier where it seemed contented to simply
sit on the struggling pigeon for a good ten minutes. I could not stay to watch
the rest of the story.

On my way out I viewed two osprey checking out the nest platform near the dog
park.

They've been spotted there recently, but I'm not sure where they might be
nesting. Last year, it was atop the concrete support directly above the
pedestrian path, near the end of Randolph Ave.
