There are still up to 22 GREATER EGRETS hanging around on C.R. 15 west of town. Yesterday, while watching the egrets, a PEREGRINE FALCON flew in and caught one of the egrets by the tail feathers. A couple of moves and the egret was freed but very vocal and upset, having lost a few feathers. The peregrine moved off to the west, briefly stopping in a tree across the field. There are also 40+ SANDHILL CRANES in the fields along C.R. 15, 80+ GREAT BLUE HERONS, BLACK-BILLED MAGPIES, a couple of GREEN HERONS, several SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, a few YELLOWLEGS, BALD EAGLES and a small flock of peeps that landed too far out to safely identify.
