My boyfriend and I, along with a couple other birders (Pete and Gary)
attempted to relocate the Nelson's Sparrows recently observed at Bass
Ponds/Long Meadow Lake Unit today from 11am-1:30pm. We failed to relocate
them. Other birds kept us busy, including:

-decent assortment of dabbling ducks (~6 spp.)
-Northern Harrier (1)
-Wilson's Snipe (6)
-Pectoral Sandpiper (2)
-Least Sandpiper (2)
-Great Egret (3)
-Tree Swallow (~10)
-American Pipit (up to four individuals at three locations)
-Rusty Blackbird (numerous)

We got great looks at many of these birds, thus it was not a wasted trip.
Good birding,

Alyssa DeRubeis
