Also on the large lake yesterday were two Common Loons, which I've rarely seen there. Then again, I've rarely seen Horned Grebes at Crosby, but it does seem like a reasonable "rest-stop" for migrants.
For those living in the Randolph Heights neighborhood of St. Paul, be on the look-out for Merlins in the area. A friend on Edgcumbe and Jefferson called last night, saying she had heard them---and was cleaning up evidence in her birdbath that efficient hunters are not always tidy eaters.
