Hey birders!

I led a fieldtrip this morning in northeastern Blue Earth County. We ended
up with 56 species for the trip and only missed swans, Cackling Goose, and
a couple of ducks.

Eagle Lake's north end had a Common Loon, dancing Sandhill Cranes, a Great
Blue Heron and two Bonaparte's Gulls with a couple of Ring-billed Gulls.
Gilfillin Slough/Lake was largely empty, but Long Lake to the north was
loaded with Ring-necked Ducks, Canvasbacks, a few Redheads, and an
assortment of dabblers including Green-winged and Blue-winged Teal. Wita
Lake had Common Merganser, Common Goldeneye, a Pied-billed Grebe, and a
single Greater Scaup in with the Lesser Scaup. American Tree Sparrows and
Song Sparrows sang from the lake's weedy edge. Duck Lake had a large raft
of Red-breasted Mergansers with a few Common Mergansers and some Herring
Gulls.

By far, the best site was our last which was Indian Lake near Smith's
Mill. We had four geese including a couple of Ross's Geese mixed in with a
large flock of Snows and 100+ Greater White-fronted Geese. Ruddy Duck was
there along with Gadwall, American Wigeon, Mallard and many of the other
species we had already seen.

Happy Birding!
