Birds are amazing! According to Scott Weidensaul, a six-inch sandpiper
weighing less than 4 quarter coins flies non-stop for 6 days, the equivalent
of us running 126 marathons in a row without food, water or rest! Join us to
dine then see Weidensaul live on the big screen Sat, May 21 at Detroit Lakes
Festival of Birds. Fri, May 20 Carrol Henderson covers Hummingbirds of the
Americas. The smallest bird species, they can fly backwards, upside down and
eat what would equal you devouring 3500 pancakes a day!

Two field trips Fri and Sat mornings, May 20/21 in prairie, wetlands and
forests. Friday Hamden Slough field trip includes Greg Hoch's I.D. session
with wing samples to differentiate between Greater Prairie Chickens,
Sharp-tailed Grouse and hybrids in the field. Itasca State Park field trip
Saturday will look for Black-backed Woodpecker and help expand birding
checklist at new site La Salle Lake State Rec Area. Also, field trips to
Rush WMA prairie and Tamarac Refuge (Golden-winged Warbler). Pontoon birding
Thursday, May 19. Early registration deadline: Friday, May 6. Final
registration deadline: Friday May 13. Details:
