Dear all,
on the hackers list, we are presently discussing a meta-project for
the collaborative development of Oz libraries and tools. This meta-
project is intended to continue the development of orphaned but still
highly valuable Mogul projects (e.g., ozh in Mogul is still only for
Mozart 1.2.5, although a patch for 1.3.* is already available), as
well as new projects which are of common interest (e.g., the
announcement of ozcurl re-started this discussion, which we had a few
months ago already). I volunteered as (one) admin for this project.
The idea in a nutshell is meanwhile a central Subversion repository
hosted at UCL, where multiple independent projects sit alongside
(e.g., simply in separate directories). Everyone interested will
easily gain a registration and that way write access to the whole
repository. Making the registration process easy is of course vital
(we even discussed making this project actually a wiki which would
not need registration at all..).
This project will complement Mogul. We will keep the Mogul
infrastructure for the distribution of releases. On the other hand,
Mogul was never intended as a development platform. This new project
complements Mogul by providing the infrastructure for a collaborative
development.
See the hackers list archive at http://lists.gforge.info.ucl.ac.be/
pipermail/mozart-hackers/ for more details. The discussion started in
the thread "Re: [Fwd: curl]".
OK, now for the fun bits: we are presently discussing a name for this
new meta-project. We have a few very nice proposals for a project
name already (see below). We welcome further proposals, and comments
(e.g., notes of preference) for the existing proposals.
1) Collozeum
"Coll" for collaborative
"oz" for Oz
"eum" as in museum - a place to store and display stuff
Pretty google safe too...
2) Mozware or Ozware
a contraction of "Mozart software" or "Oz software"
3) Gillikin (or Gillikin Country)
"the most industrially developed region in the Land of Oz" (cf.,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_of_Oz#The_Land_of_Oz)
Looking forward to the discussion!
Best
Torsten
