A floating palette is a possibility.

I took a look at wrap.pl. (I haven't yet figured out why the script is 
as complicated as it is.) Bad news: Pieces of the HTML wrapper are 
scattered inside a Perl script.

We at least two options:
* Modifying wrap.pl just enough to make the output pass the validator 
even though the code is only syntactically correct but not necessarily 
otherwise good HTML.

* Writing a considerably different new wrapper and writing a new script, 
too.
