The pref would be to set the default value of the Get Msg button with 
menu items to do the other option. The two options I see are:

1.  Get Msgs for selected account
2.  Get Msgs for all logged into accounts including selected account 
(even if you aren't logged into that account in which case you'd get 
prompted for your password).

I think it's important to have both of these options.  Though I have to 
admit that I do like your 3rd suggestion of getting messages for a 
random account.
