No, they don't - they mislabel what you are actually doing.
You don't delete newsgroup messages - they aren't on your
computer, so you can't delete them anymore than you can delete a
web page you are viewing.
What you CAN do (and what those other programs are ACTUALLY
doing) is remove them from view. The way to do these is to
select "View - Messages - Unread" or "View - Messages - Threads
with Unread".
Then when you finish reading the group, you can mark all
messages as read, and all you will see are the new messages next
time you open the group.

Canceling removes a post that you made from the server. Not all
servers support canceling.
