After talking to some people about the problems with the directory
viewer, and I have done something radicial... I have disabled the
directory viewer in favor of generated html. This probably will break
ftp bookmark autoexpansion, but the preformance and flakeiness of the
directory viewer is IMO unexceptable.
If you still want to use it, for experimental purposes, you can. All
you have to do is disable the preference "network.dir.generate_html".
There is also an option to do this under the Debug/Networking preference
panel.
