The short answer is that Netscape no longer produces a Java engine; the
one in NS6 is Sun's JVM (or Apple's MRJ on Macs), so those companies are
the ones to ask.
I think signed applets do work in NS6, but what doesn't work is
communication between a signed applet and signed or unsigned Javascript.
