Pretty much. Actually the server, AIUI, is still at AOL. Mozilla hasn't
yet found the personnel/time to set up their own server. They're not in a
position to manage the exist server.

The plan is to set up a new server with a new reorganised set of groups.

For what it's worth, these newsgroups are available through other servers
as well, and other providers do filter spam and viruses. I use the free
newsgroups service provided by http://news.individual.net/ , and I see
maybe 1 or 2 spam/virus messages each week - the rest is filtered out.
