And: I've experimented with some binaries in the meantime, and I'm happy to report that none (!) of them created the problems, I was previously reporting (although I had one "blue screen crash" which was most likely not related to LAME running. I will keep an eye on this). My conclusion for the time being therefore is: As the problem of inernet connection cutting is only caused by one compilation, it's more than likely that this one is different from most of the others in at least one material aspect, and may "trigger a bug" in some users' systems. I leave it to the experts to find out what the difference is. But at least a "warning" would be appropriate in the meantime.
