Looking in config.log I notice that your paths are not stardard

PATH: /opt/sharcnet/vmd/current/bin
PATH: /opt/sharcnet/tgrid/current/bin
PATH: /opt/sharcnet/mitrion/1.5.1/sdk-xl/mitrion/bin
PATH: /opt/sharcnet/jdk/current/bin
PATH: /opt/sharcnet/cuda-visualprofiler/2.0/bin
PATH: /opt/sharcnet/cuda-toolkit+sdk/1.1/bin
PATH: /opt/sharcnet/compile/bin
PATH: /usr/kerberos/bin
PATH: /usr/local/bin
PATH: /bin
PATH: /usr/bin
PATH: /opt/sharcnet/archive_tools/public
PATH: /opt/sharcnet/blast/current/bin
PATH: /opt/sharcnet/gsl/current/bin
PATH: /opt/sharcnet/pathscale/current/bin
PATH: /home/jeffg/bin

Could you try to set path to the more usual bin, sbin , this could break lots
of other things though :)

thanks
