With a lot of help from Jason, I have finally been able to build MPIR
with MINGW64.

This is an interesting exercise since MPIR has Windows assembler code
that Jason has been able to integrate into MINGW64 and this means this
build should be similar in performance terms to that using Visual
Studio.

I have now been able to run the same benchmark on the same machine
with both of these builds and they are indeed within 0.5% of each
other in performance terms.
