Another good resource for checking out questionable charities is the Mn
Charities Review Council. Their website at http://www.crcmn.org/ has a
giving guide that lists all the charities and shady businesses pretending
to be charities that they know about, with details about whether they meet
local & national charity standards. For example, the 1st one on Carols
list below is listed as NOT meeting the Review Councils standards, and
noted that they refuse to supply their financial figures. That's one of
the kind that I would not support!
Tim Bonham, Ward 12
>I don't know the name of the organization you talked to. I know there was a
>group calling around a couple of years ago purporting to be raising money
>for police needs that was a shady charity (putting the best light on it).
>Sometimes they used frightening tactics or implied that people would not get
>police protection if they didn't donate. Sometimes they just gave sob
>stories. I even got called by them.

>I pulled the names of the police-related charities listed with the Attorney
>General's Office. If you have questions, there is information about each on
>the Attorney General's website.
