Several list members have written me very politely to question these numbers
as low. They're right. They're for the primary, not the general election.
The general election results were:
1993
SSB 59,269
Derus 44,042
Write-Ins 535
In 1997
SSB 52,222
Babs 42,530
WriteIns 794
(Thanks to Annie Young!)
Also, on snipe, several members have written me off-list to ask if I'm
against "lost pet" ads and band ads, and the answer is no.
What really bugs me is what I think I'll call "Industrial Snipe" - those
mass-produced plastic corrugated signs for weight loss & making money at
home. This also includes a series of unfortunate yellow paper Diet Pill
signs currently afflicting S. Minneapolis.
It would be great if a civic-minded corporation would sponsor a Wipe Out
Snipe Day (cleaning company of some sort?). Let neighborhoods battle each
other to remove Industrial Snipe and win prizes! We could even go to other
less-gung-ho neighborhoods and clean up their Industrial Snipe...unless
that's a boundary issue!
