These folks demonstrated through their actions > the truth that a Clean Minneapolis is up to each and every one of > us....and we ALL are capable of effecting positive change in our > community. > > In coming months you'll see more of the Clean Minneapolis program---you'll > see and hear about: > > Car Litter Bags handed out at each municipal parking ramp, and the > private parking lots--there will not be an excuse to throw that candy > wrapper out the car window! > > Clean City logos in mailings, on tee shirts, on posters and in > newspapers that will remind you to put litter in containers, throw cigg > butts in ashtrays, and clean off graffiti when you see it > > Ads in TransStops that will remind folks that littering is bad > behavior > > Radio and Print ads that will target the "frequent littering > persons" to explain why litter does not belong on the ground, or in our > streams > > Coordinated enforcement programs to end overflowing commercial > dumpsters, to clean up junk in alleys and yards, to remove abandoned > vehicles and to cut weeds and brush > > Neighborhood-driven Clean Sweeps and Adopt a Block efforts, pairing > the dedication and enthusiasm of neighborhoods with City-supplied bags, > gloves and debris disposal > > The Clean Minneapolis Program is a partnership between the City > government, and the folks that live, play and work here. Clean > MInneapolis is being led by John Berquist and JoAnn Velde in Regulatory > Services and Inspections. Clean Minneapolis emphasizes the > responsibility that we each have to keeping Minneapolis a clean and > beautiful community, and enhances our personal efforts with targeted City > support. Clean Minneapolis is employee-driven, and neighborhood and > resident supportive. The City employees that volunteered their free > time, and that of their families, did so because we believe in the > program, and we believe in a Clean Minneapolis. Companies such as > TransStop and Martin/Williams Advertising that are giving pro-bono > support, government partners such as MnDOT and Hennepin County and local > merchants such as Fashion Bug and Cub that donated food and prizes did so > because they enthusiasitically accept this opportunity to achieve a Clean > Minneapolis. Clean Minneapolis is not a high-budget operation; we are > leveraging small amounts of money in creative ways with volunteers and > partners to spread the anti-litter message. Clean Minneapolis will > remind us 50's and 60's types that litter is waste that is NOT in it's > place, that we Give a Hoot and Don't Pollute, and it will educate those > that never heard those messages because we stopped saying them so long > ago.
