Folks, a gentle reminder on the ballpark and sex-offender-notification
fronts:

The list rules ask that we hone in on Minneapolis-specific effects of
broader initiatives.

In the case of the ballpark, such effects can include (but are not
limited to) how Gov. Ventura's plan might make it
easier/harder/better/worse for a Minneapolis-specific tax, or a
Downtown-specific tax, or even to get/refuse the ballpark at all. The
focus should be on the Minneapolis effects, not statewide policy
implications (such as what it does to Minnesota's bond rating, what
message the legislature sends to major-league baseball, etc.).

Ditto with sex-offender-notification. There are many aspects of this
which are clearly Minneapolis issues: how the city can improve
notifications to the neighborhoods, or detailing offender-related crime
that happens in our borders. However, a broader debate over the length
of sentences - while important - is a state matter that is not decided
locally, so it is better for our sibling list,
Minnesota-Politics-Discuss, at http://www.e-democracy.org

The goal is to focus attention on local issues/effects that get drowned
out in larger arenas, or issues where the Minneapolis impact is quite a
bit larger than anywhere else.

Thanks,
David Brauer
List manager
