There is no way baseball's economic house is now in order. Let's see this deal for what it is: window dressing, a PR effort. It does almost nothing to ensure anything about baseball's economic future. Baseball won't contract teams for four years, but what about teams going down due to bankruptcy? The Twins say they are looking for a new owner, but they say there needs to be a good stadium deal to attract one. When asked to make financial commitments to secure a stadium deal they say, "No. A new owner would have to do that." Seems more than a bit circular to me. What they want, of course, is a stadium that is paid for in total by someone else (read "taxpayers"). They also want all of the revenues to make them more competitive. The Twins are an excellent team this year, so you had better watch and enjoy them while you can, because Mr. Pohlad won't be signing Torii Hunter to a big contract that will keep him around. Or Jacque Jones. Or Christian Guzman. Or... The Twins will keep payroll as low as possible while putting the revenue sharing money in his pocket. What a mess. Walt Cygan Keewaydin A shout out to list members Clark Griffith and Dee Long on their appearances on "Almanac" tonight. I disagreed with most everything they said, but they each did a great job for their positions. _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A Civil City Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
