In town on the 4th and looking for something to do? Get out and pump your
pedals this Independence Day!

A brand-new family event, the Parade of Bikes, www.paradeofbikes.org,
invites the Twin Cities community to enjoy the newly completed recreational
trail connections between Minneapolis and the west metro in a festive bike
rally to raise money for affordable housing.

This is not a race, but a party on wheels for all ages. The entire route
follows paved bike trails with minimal road crossings. There will be rest
stops, food, drink and entertainment along the way. Every child who
completes the ride will receive a medal.

Beginning at 12:30 pm in south Minneapolis, the Parade of Bikes will travel
a scenic 17-mile loop to the Chain of Lakes, St. Louis Park, Hopkins and
back along the Midtown Greenway, Southwest Corridor Trail, Hutchinson Spur,
Cedar Lake Trail, and the Kenilworth Trail. The event also offers a 6-mile
short course to Lake Calhoun and back.

Proceeds from the Parade of Bikes will support Twin Cities Habitat for
Humanity and its work in South Minneapolis.

Where
The ride will begin at the Midtown Greenway and 5th Avenue, near the Wells
Fargo Campus. Event parking is available at the Wells Fargo parking garage
at 28th Street and 4th Avenue. Show up by noon to register. T-shirts,
coupons and other goodies will go to all registered riders. HELMET REQUIRED!

What's More
The Parade of Bikes is the newest event in the Greenway Parade of Arts,
which draws thousands of people each year. This year's headlining band is
Sabor Tropical, the hottest salsa band in the Midwest.

Also, riders returning from the Parade of Bikes will arrive in time to enjoy
the ninth-annual Art Car Parade as it makes its way down Lyndale, across
Lake Street and up 5th Avenue. Riders with decorated bikes can even join in!

Awards and prizes for best-decorated bicycles and fundraising
accomplishments will be presented during the Parade of Arts festivities.
