Melissa Schmidt , a police officer, was shot and killed by Martha Donald, a 60 year old mentally ill woman in a confrontation. Melissa Schmidt also shot and killed Martha Donald in this confrontation. "Crazed woman" is probably not the best way Martha Donald's family would like her remembered. "Severely mentally ill woman" is more accurate and less judgemental. If Minneapolis can find a Police Chief that knows this difference, we would be able to make huge strides in how the police force deal with the mentally ill in the future.
