I and, of course, many others attended last nights meeting
at Farview Park Community Center. It was nice to see
Rev. Jerry McAfee make his statements and then, he and
his supports leave the meeting. However, Rev. Randy Staten
was more patience. Most important, I wish reporters like
Rosalind Bentley, Terry Collins, and other reporters from
the media would STOP quoting them so much as if they are
the only ones who have a voice and concern about this
issue of police and community relations-many, many other
voices within the African American community MUST be heard
and quoted as well. Rev. Staten commented about a grief
counseling group last night. I believe it is called
Operation Resurrection. Maybe someone on this list knows
more about Rev. Staten association with this effort.

Now, elected officials of the City of Minneapolis.
Many, many individuals also complained that they
have tried to contact them, but have received no or
little response from them. This is not good if you
want to get re-elected to political office, again.

Chief Olson is a lame-duck in his position. He will
leave soon with "egg on face" and no brutality on his
body, but with a very heavy conscious on his mind.

Inspector Tim Dolan, commander of the northside 4th
precinct, will continue to allow his officers under
his command to treat northside Black residents with
disrepect and racism.

Finally, the recently release report from the Council on
Crime and Justice on racial profiling was discussed as well.

About 250 turn out for meeting on police, community
relations
Rosalind Bentley and Terry Collins, Star Tribune

Published October 18, 2003
Friday night's community meeting was supposed to
be about explosive allegations leveled earlier this
week that two Minneapolis police officers sodomized
a man with a toilet plunger during a drug raid.

But for the nearly 250 people who attended the
meeting at Farview Park Community Center in
north Minneapolis, the gathering turned into a
contentious debate about police brutality and
from elected officials.

MINNEAPOLIS: Residents vent at mayor, chief
BY BILL GARDNER
Pioneer Press

It was an often angry evening as members of the
North Minneapolis community sounded off Friday
night to city leaders about police brutality that
many say is a way of life in their neighborhood.

Mayor R.T. Rybak and Police Chief Robert Olson
spoke briefly at the start of the meeting at
Farview Park and then sat at the front of the room
to respond to questions from a gathering of
approximately 150 people.
