With the Minneapolis DFL convention approaching, NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota released an open letter to DFL delegates supporting both R.T. Rybak and Peter McLaughlin as 100% pro-choice candidates.
AN OPEN LETTER TO MINNEAPOLIS DFL DELEGATES: At the May 14th Minneapolis DFL convention, delegates have two admirable, pro-choice candidates from which to choose. Both Mayor R.T. Rybak and County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin are firmly pro-choice and respect women’s right to reproductive health access and justice. It is intrinsically valuable for the City of Minneapolis to have a pro-choice mayor. Local governments make decisions that affect whether employees’ health coverage includes birth control. Clinics that provide abortions in the city are often under attack by anti-choice protestors and need allies in City Hall. Pro-choice Minneapolitans need only to look at St. Paul to see the value of having a pro-choice mayor. St. Paul has anti-choice Mayor Kelly. Recently, the St. Paul city staff granted a permit for anti-choice protestors directly in front of an abortion clinic in the same space that had been reserved for patient escorts and pro-choice supporters. Minnesotans as a whole will also benefit from a pro-choice Minneapolis mayor who will endorse and support other pro-choice candidates for local, state and national office. The NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota Election Fund proudly supports both Peter McLaughlin and R.T. Rybak. Either candidate has pledged to support reproductive health access and justice as mayor. R.T.
