Congrats to incumbant MPRB Commissioner Annie Young on her re-election!
Huge congrats to Cam Gorden in Ward 2, defying all DFL expectations and
showing that a positive grassroots campaign can win the day. Big kudos to
Cam's team and the very lucky folks of the 2nd Ward!
People will be talking about the two high profile Green incumbants who lost,
but the GP is still Minneapolis' number 2 party. Both Dean and Natalie lost
close races to very attractive, high profile, incumbant DFLers after very
questionable re-districting and some even more questionable events and
tactics. Dean had the FBI raid his house and cripple his campaign right
before the primary, and Natalie got enbroiled in one of the nastiest
campaigns in recent memory, which included her husband being publicly
branded a pornographer by her opponet.
Thanks Natalie and Dean for 4 years of standing up for sustainability, equal
protection and civil liberties, and for being strong voices for peace and
justice in City Hall. The city has seen that other roads are there to be
travelled.
On the northside, we saw that Jon Olsen is definately beatable and that Barb
Johnson could do with some competition. She is probably ripe for a Green
challenge after decades of some of the most conservative DFL CMs in town
(coincidentally all from the same family).
And oh, Farheen Hakeem got over 1,000 write-in votes from those of us who
couldn't hold their noses long enough at the top of the ballot.
Finally, I very much doubt we have seen the last of Natalie, Farheen, or
Dean.
Peace,
Eric Oines
