Very reluctantly.... He was unhappy with Erwin when
Erwin brought this up.

I heard this - and I stand by my statement. After the
meeting, Erwin confirmed my impressions that Bob Fine
was an unhappy camper about all of this.

If Fine WAS concerned about discrimination (and not
just about gays, religious also) and De La Salle, he'd
be taking leadership to make sure this is in the
agreement. He's not. It's good that John Erwin did
make that point. Hopefully other Park commissioners
will follow up. I'll be calling my commissioner - Jon
Olson (who didn't win big against Booker T Hodges -
who is fairly notorious in this neck of the woods) -
to ask that he show leadership to make sure the
agreement addresses non-discrimination.
Jim Bernstein's public record and statements on this
topic show Jim Bernstein to be better on this issue -
especially in the area of separation of church and
state.
Bob Fine also didn't get reelected by a landslide - he
had a close race - and it will be interesting to see
if he reaches out beyond the folks who voted for him -
or if he'll continue with the way he works now.
Here's another Bob Fine story that shows the lack of
character of Bob Fine - Fine's literature talked about
how he serves on the Children's Theater Board. That's
true - Fine did serve on the Children's Theater board
- but resigned after being asked to participate as a
board member in contributing to the Children's
Theater.
Another poster here mentioned Archbishop Harry Flynn
spoke at the Bachmann Amendment "Pastor's Summit".
That's true. Harry Flynn was the host of the dinner
after the summit.
I think the Strib says it well:
<<Much of the blame for the board's reputation for
arrogance, inside maneuvers and factionalism falls to
Bob Fine, the former president. We cannot endorse him,
although his dedication as a coach and children's
advocate is appreciated.>>
It's unfortunate that the Park Board was not De-Fined.
De-Fining the Park Board would have done much to
improve the Park Board. Fine's work as a coach in his
neighborhood is probably what kept him on the board.
On David Hauser's post, Nikki, David made a fool of
himself on the list - and apologised for it. His
foolishness made the City Pages blotter - and I
believe he'd make a good candidate for the City Pages
"Best Meltdown" Award. Last year's winner was John
"Hindrocket" Hinderaker of Powerline blog.
