Bobbee, Solaris has a bunch of freebie compression utilities like "gzip/gunzip", "compress" and "nice", etc. If you're compressing XML docs that are in ASCII (or in UTF-8 with very few multi-byte characters) you could see 100MB files compress into 10MB to 20MB.
Visit http://sunfreeware.com/ for free Sun Solaris software. Source code too! - Jim Keohane p.s. try unix command "man nice" or "man compress" or "man gzip" to view the appropriate manual. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <Signature> <Name>Jim Keohane</Name> <Company>Multi-Platforms, Inc.</Company> <Services>Software Development & Consulting, expert witness, columnist</Services> <Title>Chief Cook & Bottle Washer</Title> <Phone>(516) 579-2209</Phone> <WebAddress>www.multi-platforms.com</WebAddress> <eMail>[EMAIL PROTECTED]</eMail> <Quote>640K ought to be enough for anybody. - Bill Gates</Quote> <QuickPad PRO>640K is enough.
