When do you want the message encrypted whilst it is in transit or when its
sitting around on a queue or both? Personally SSL for an internal LAN is
overkill but it depends on how high a value the messages are and whether
there are SVRCONN channels available.

Subject: SSL - OS400 and OS390

Hi,
I am looking to use SSL on the channels between an OS400 and an OS390
machine.
Both machines are on MQ 5.3. All the traffic on the channels is within a
LAN.
The messages are high value.

For a production environment, would it be recommended to get the
certificates
from an external certification Authority or could something like Digital
Certificate Manager (DCM) on OS400 be used to manage/generate the
certificates
for both machines?

>From what I see of SSL on NT, it seems fairly straightforward to configure.
Has
anyone used it to connect OS400 and OS390? How painful was it? What kind of
problems/issues did you encounter?

Would the use of SSL be considered overkill in an environment like this?

Thanks in advance.
