amqicsdn MQPINUSEOK=1 almost always works during the install, but sometimes
even it is foiled.

Go to sysinternal.com, and download listdlls.exe. It is a lifesaver. Then
follow the below steps. Process Explorer is also found at sysinternals.
This has always worked, and I have dealt with CSD upgrades on 5.3 about 50
times.

1.Put the listdlls.exe into a folder on the server, like maybe
E:\Programs\IBM\MQSeries\MQSupportTools.

2.CD into that directory from the dos prompt.

3.Run the executable, and pipe the output into a text file. Here is a sample
of what you would type assuming you placed the executable file as in step 1:
E:\Programs\IBM\MQSeries\MQSupportTools\listdlls.exe >DLLOutput.txt

4.Open DLLOutput.txt and do a search on "MQ". Scroll up to see what .exe is
using this MQ dll.

5.Stop the application that is using the MQ dll and you should be all set.
If you do not recognize what this .exe is, use Process Explorer
(procexp.exe). You can find the exe in there, and it will tell you what app
it is.

After stopping MQ, make sure the little icon in the System Tray is also gone
(right click Hide), as it uses MQ files even if MQ the service is stopped.
Give it a minute to be released.

Here is a list of all the apps I have found that have caused me a
problem.....
1. Altiris
2. BGS_SDService
3. BMC Software
4. CPQHosts
5. Compaq EcoTools
6. Compaq Versioning Control
7. IBM MQSeries
8. IBM MQSI Broker
9. IBM MQSI Configuration Manager
10. Norton Anti Virus
11. Performance Data Log Service
12. QPASA (all three components)
13. SMV Collector
14. Tivoli
15. Windows Management Instrumentation
16. BMC is also known to hang onto to MQ Files, but it is not a service.
You may need to manually kill it using procexp.exe. BMC is not always
present, so you may not want to bother looking for this unless the CSD
install cries about locked files even after stopping all of the above. Use
listdlls.exe to see what is holding an MQSeries file; use procexp.exe to
kill it if you can't find it in Task Manager or Services.

Subject: Can not apply CSD09 - "Files are in use"

Hello all,

I am trying to install CSD09 on a freshly installed MQS 5.3 for
Windows. I an getting the error message

IBM Websphere MQ files are in use. Stop activity and retry.
(AMQ4757)

According to the Task Manager, there are no processes running with the
'amq' prefix, other than 'amqicsdn.exe' - this is the CSD installer
itself.

I have already stopped 'MQSeries Services'; there are no MQ icons in
the system tray.

Does anyone have any ideas for me? I just successfully completed an
MQ 5.2 to 5.3 upgrade followed by a CSD09 installation, so I know my
CDs are okay. I can't figure out what applications would be running
that might be keeping some of the MQ files open.

Could there be a flag file of some sort that might be incorrectly present?

Thanks for all help.

Dave A.
