Well,

they declare obvious things (I think).

From my experience, m128 @16MHz in average performs the same as 430 @8MHz, but
this strongly depends on a particular problem and implementation.

The insns set of AVR is slightly complex for a normal person. But harness of
AVRs is easier to learn. msp430 has much simper insns set, but everything
else is not for beginners.

The code size of avr can be smaller a bit than 430s in case when 8bits vars
and small functions only used. When the overal system is more than just uart
transfers, msp430 can be better. For example, for the same problem
(multichannel corellator) I have, the code size for m103/128 is about 10K
where codesize for msp430 is about 8K. Coding complex interrupt service
routines is better in msp430 of course.

I think that perepherial of msp430 is in "harmony" with other devices params.
I doubt one will use ADC, SPI, UART and other stuff with 8-pin/1K mem devices
simultaniously.

And just yesterday, I spent a couple of hours sorting out why I cannot program
m128 with stk200 (m103 is Ok, , 2313 is Ok) - m128 was imcompatible with my
new 1600MHz box. So, I reverted to PIII 533MHz and then everything became
fine. ...still puzzled...
Providing there are no bugs in software and hardware is Ok I suspect that
Atmel does some voodoo with their m128's :)
