Thanks Andy/Douglas for your suggestions. Unfortunately I have to agree with Douglas. Changing OS is an excuse, not a reason and currently impossible on my end due to tactical, strategic and logistical issues. I have a Win2K desktop and a Win98 laptop and (my opinion) I'm not convinced that Win2K is an upgrade for anything. Although I think the use of "defective" is a little strong, I would have been perfectly happy to see a note indicating that the latest release was Win2K or better. I'm happy, and already have, downloaded the 2.10 version of the compiler from the link Douglas provided. Knowing this in advance would have saved me a couple of evenings looking at my make file and calling the compiler from the command line trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.
