maybe just overwriting is the best. it's only writing to the mspgcc directories after all and not in some systemwide directory.

Unless you have changed my install script, it will only write cygwin,dll if it is not already in the path. This is to ensure you don't get two copies in the path. If you do, cygwin refuses to run. On the other hand, it does not ensure you have an up to date cygwin.
