The JTAG is from Olimex (details here:
http://www.olimex.com/dev/msp-jtag.html) which does not have a pin
conveniently labelled XOUT. However on the motherboard the JTAG TCLK pin is
connected to the XOUT/TCLK pin on the ยต. Is that what you mean? If this is
a problem would simply disconnecting that wire on our JTAG fix the problem?

Well, I guess it could be you really have an oscillator fault, and the
software is waiting for a good reason. :-)
