This won't help you much, but I recently rebuilt all the tools on Fedora
9. They all compiled fine and everything seems to work, including
msp430-gdb. (Only thing I have problems with is msp430-gdbproxy, which
doesn't seem to know about recent(ish) msp430 chips.)

This suggests maybe there's something wrong with the way you built
things. I lazily built everything using the makefile in packaging on
cvs.
