I got this message from Microsoft support today in this matter
"we have identified root cause and Sustained Engineering is going to start
working on a hotfix. Basically the block size for how often the Task Sequence
Progress bar updated was changed and it was updating much more frequently,
causing the download the slow down significantly. I'll provide more details as
I have them. Engineers are working on to create a Hotfix and it make take few
weeks before we can see the hotfix."

I'll post an update when there is a hotfix for it here

Ouch, sucks...

But I'm kind of happy about not scheduling any production ConfigMgr 2012 R2
installations until next year. Only a few POC's and trainings this year. It
doesn't really matter for those if PXE is broken and OSD is slow... The
ConfigMgr team probably fix it quickly, they normally do...

Based on my "sources" CSS has identified the issue - it was neither boot image
or network related. They are beginning to work on a fix but it will/may be a
handful of weeks before anything is made public.

Just to clarify that this is not an issue with the boot image being slow to
download over PXE.

This is an issue with downloading content (i.e. wim files) once WinPE 5.0 boots
up following a Config Manager 2012 R2 Upgrade.

Could be.....had to update my boot image last week with an Intel driver used
for the Dell Precision T1700......dead slow to PXE boot....compared to *any*
other system.....and this is still on 2012 SP1 CU2...

So, someone just hypothesized that it may be an issue with the Intel NIC driver
built into PE 5.0.

Has anyone tried updating that driver with an updated one directly from Intel
in their boot images?

They've had a hard time repro-ing this internally but are well aware of the
many folks having the issue and are actively working to address it. Your best
bet is to contact CSS and provide information about the environment and issue -
the more info that they have, the better they will be able to find the root
cause and provide the fix (whether that be code or configuration).

For everyone's information on this email group:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/4c72ae27-198f-4751-b0d6-340a11b52bd4/insanely-slow-os-download-in-2012-r2-winpe?forum=configmanagerosd

I am also experiencing this issue. Hopefully a hotfix / work around is released
by Microsoft shortly.

When you have 150+ replacements coming up - an extra 15-20 minutes to download
the OS to the disk really blows out your replacement times. I've also noticed
that its slow when downloading driver packages and the MDT 2013 Files package.

Regards,
Damon
