Jingle bells... Oh, you know the song. Before anything else,
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May the Unicorns keep any
falling missile away from your home... Okay, seriously, has the
world gone crazy? A real "nightmare before christmas"...

Well, back to the MSX scene. I've found an old photocopy
from Japan MSX Magazine with the turbo R I/O map. I updated the
document within my Gremlin package with the new data. By the
way, I've moved again, this time to a server that does not use
JavaScript pop-up sponsor windows, as does Geocities, Spree,
Tripod and most other "free" Page host servers. Anyway, my
Page can be found at:

    http://welcome.to/unicorndreams

I was using Monolyth name redirect services, but they are
shutting down. This new address should be more "stable"...

For those that are not willing to download files, unpack and
so on, here is a summary of some changes to the MSX I/O port map
in turbo R:

* Unreserved ports (ports that were reserved to MSX, MSX2 and
MSX2+ and are no longer reserved in turbo R):

88H~8BH: Used by the MSX2 VDP (V9938) External Adapter I/O ports.
B0H~B3H: Memory Expansion (Sony method).
B8H~BBH: Light-pen control (Sanyo method).
BCH~BFH: VHD control (created by JVC).
C0H~C1H: MSX-Audio!!!
C8H~CCH: MSX Interface (Asynchronous Serial Communication Interface).
Originally, MSX Interface had reserved 8 ports, from C8H
till CFH, now only three, from CDH till CFH.
D0H~D7H: Floppy Disk Controller (FDC). Some Brazilian interfaces
used these ports to control floppy-drivers. Some people
reported that turbo R refused those interfaces. According to
MSX Magazine, S1990 blocks or changes somehow the data sent
to some freed I/O ports (I couldn't understand the reason).

* New reserves:

E3H~E5H: Reserved for turbo R (undefined use!!!). ASCII gives no
detail about the use of these ports (something to do with
         S1990, it seems).

Well, that's all, for this year... Maybe...

                                                   ... Cyberknight...
