Hi MSX friends,

I saw the following message today at work on our intraweb. I don't know if we
must consider this bad news or good news but it certainly is real news.

>NewsEdge - 5/12/99
>
>Microsoft, Konami To Share Games
>
>Topic: Microsoft Corp.
>Source: The Associated Press
>
>REDMOND, WASH. - The Associated Press via NewsEdge Corporation :
>Microsoft Corp. and Japan's Konami Co. have agreed to publish each
>other's games on other systems, marking the first time both companies
>have strayed outside their core game markets.
>
>Konami, a large video game publisher based in Tokyo, will publish
>Microsoft's games on systems such as Nintendo 64, Sony PlayStation and
>the Sega Dreamcast, Dow Jones News Service reported Tuesday. Microsoft,
>meanwhile, will adapt Konami titles for the personal computer. The
>first titles resulting from the deal will be announced this year.
>
>Traditionally, Microsoft has published its game titles only on the PC,
>though it has licensed individual titles on occasion for the Sony
>PlayStation and Nintendo 64. But the new deal will allow Konami to
>choose any of Microsoft's titles and publish them for other platforms,
>and vice versa.
>
>Ed Fries, general manager of the Microsoft games business, said the
>deal will help Microsoft develop new sources of revenue for the titles
>already selling on the PC. Microsoft still will aim its games first for
>the PC. But Fries said more game players are switching between systems,
>so the deal makes sense.
>
>Tim Dunley, vice president of marketing at Konami of America in San
>Mateo, Calif., said more of his company's games such as the
>multimillion seller ``Metal Gear Solid'' are aimed at adult audiences,
>making it more sensible to adapt the titles to the PC, which tends to
>draw older players.
>
>Both companies also noted that the alliance was a strategy to deal with
>growing consolidation in the games business.

Kind regards,
