You're right, brmsx 2.6 has a bug in the GUI.
If you try to open the gui in msx-1 mode it will crash
the emulator. I introduced this error by mistake in the version 2.6
but I'l fix it in the next version (this weekend I hope).
Keep the bug reports coming.
